As you can see from the ticker on my sidebar, I’m expecting my first grandchild in a few months! My son and his girlfriend are expecting their little bundle of joy in August. Rachel has reached the point that maternity clothes are needed. We have been out in the shops looking at them, and were shocked at the prices. So, I got to work! Rachel gave me a few of her tee’s that she has outgrown, and I turned them into maternity tops. It is soo easy and economical, and I wish I had thought of it when I was pregnant with my kids.
All I did was measure down to just under her bust, and cut off the top portion of the tee. I then took a large men’s tee and cut it off under the arms, which I gathered and and sewed to the top of the other tee. Creating a ‘skirt’ so to speak. They fit perfectly, and she will get alot of wear out of them. She will even be able to wear them after the baby is born. You’ll have to forgive the crappy pictures. The batteries in my camera are getting low, so they didn’t turn out too wonderful. But, you’ll get the idea.
The pinks don’t match perfectly on this one, but they aren’t quite as different as they look in the picture. I figure that after a few washes it won’t be as noticeable.
This one is better.
the front,
and the back. I added ribbon ties because it was a little big.
And although it doesn’t look like it on the hanger, this one is the nicest. It is a beautiful aqua colour on the bottom. (can you see that the batteries were getting worse? lol) I like the ruffles on this one. I will be making a black one exactly the same. Hopefully we’ll get some warmer weather so she can wear them! Can you believe it snowed again today? I am so tired of winter weather!!
My next project(s)(there will probably be more than one, lol) will be a sweater/jacket for her. I’ll use Simplicity #2374. I have some nice soft knit picked out.
I also have two other patterns I will be making up for her once she has chosen the fabric.
Butterick #’s 5196, and 4201.
They will both be quick, easy sews, so Rachel’s maternity wardrobe will be well on it’s way! Up next… Baby Clothes!!
