The first and most important thing I have to say today, (July 5th) is, HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMANDA! It would be wonderful if you all stopped by Amanda's blog, The Modern Brady Bunch, and said hi, and Happy Birthday. I know she would love it! Amanda and I 'met' only weeks ago, through our blogs, and have already become the best of friends. Now, we talk daily, and it is difficult to remember a time when we weren't friends! We have so much in common, and are never at a loss for words when we talk! (Which we have discovered can be for hours at a time!) Thank heavens for long distance phone plans!
Now, on to my latest project. I love paisley. But it isn't always easy to find, at least in colours and fabrics I like. So, when Amanda sent me this piece, I knew just what I wanted to do with it! My second project from my new book! It is called the 'Party Dress'. The model in the book is made of satin, with sequin trim. I don't care for sewing on satin, (I've sewn way to many satin bridesmaid dresses in my time!) so I was happy to receive both the paisley and the matching dotty fabric to make it in. The pattern itself is very easy and quick, but I wanted to elaborate on it, to make it my own, so to speak. I used an off white cotton to make an underskirt,(and in so doing, I completely lined the dress) and used the last bit of the dotty fabric to trim the hem. I think it turned out very nicely.
The hem isn't wonky, it is just the way it is hanging.
I crocheted belt loops to hold the ribbon in place, but had to pin it for the pics.
Once I take better pics, I'll be posting this little number in my etsy shop!
I hope that all of my American friends had a wonderful 4th of July! I have seen so many wonderful sewing and craft projects in the past few weeks, all for the July 4th celebrations. Congratulations on a job well done ladies! Anne
